Nestled into the quiet countryside, Essex Township is located Northwest of St. Johns, and East of Fowler. The Township boasts the village of Maple Rapids, the Maple River, and many beautiful homes.

Burning permits are issued by the Maple Rapids DPW. Please request a permit prior to burning by contacting DPW @ 989-682-4569.

The next regular meeting is on August 19th at 7:00PM at  the Maple Rapids Community Center

 

Regularly scheduled meetings are held at the Maple Rapids Community Center located at 209 West Union Street on the third Wednesday of February, March, April, June, August, October, and December at 7:00p.m.  The public is always welcome.

Essex Township Special Meeting Notice

 

The Essex Township Board will hold a special meeting

Wednesday, June 24 at 7:00 pm

at the Bengal Township Hall, 6586 West M-21,

St. Johns, MI 48879.

 

The following topics will be discussed at this public meeting:

 

1. Informative discussion regarding Essex Township Wind Turbines.  Essex Township Attorney, Mr. William Fehey, will be in attendance. 

The Dallas Township Board and Bengal Township Board will be participating in the Wind turbine discussion. The Essex Township Board may vote to convene a closed session during this meeting, in order to consult with its attorney regarding trial or settlement strategy in connection with specific pending litigation. Time will be allowed for public comment before and after a closed session.  Public comment will be time-limited.

 

2. Discuss/possible action taken on the Clinton Area Ambulance Authority’s request to finance a new ambulance
